Requesting a BioBus Visit
Founded in 2001, the Connecticut BioBus is a 40-foot, custom-designed mobile laboratory delivering hands-on bioscience experiments to over 5,000 students through out Connecticut each year. Outfitted with the latest in bioscience equipment and technology, the BioBus brings an exceptional experience in the life sciences above and beyond the normal classroom curriculum.
The BioBus program is designed for students in 4th through 12th grade. The BioBus accommodates two instructors and up to 24 students at a time. The Connecticut BioBus travels to schools and community events, sparking scientific discovery and igniting interest in scientific careers.
The BioBus visits Connecticut schools free of charge, though each visit requires an investment of time and effort by teachers and the school, including: 1) participation in teacher training; 2) integrating the BioBus visit into classroom lessons, along with running activities before and after the BioBus visit; and 3) assisting BioBus staff in teaching on board the BioBus. Teachers are eligible to earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for attending a one-day training workshop.
Please note that to request a BioBus visit you must be a science teacher who is committed to fulfilling the above requirements. If you are not an educator, but would like the BioBus program to visit your school, please contact a science teacher at your school who meets the necessary qualifications and encourage him or her to sign up.
We currently have a waiting list for BioBus visits. Please visit the Curriculum section for descriptions of the experiment lessons and the grade levels for which each is appropriate.

Requesting a BioConnection Equipment Module
Founded in 2004, the BioConnection Program expands upon CURE's highly successful BioBus Program, reaching up to 10,000 Connecticut students each year. BioConnection is an equipment loan program that enables teachers all over Connecticut to bring sophisticated biotechnology to their classrooms, using the same equipment typically found in modern laboratories.
BioConnection equipment, training, and curricular materials are provided free of charge to all schools in Connecticut. The program is structured to enrich the scientific curriculum at middle and high schools with advanced investigational exercises using research tools and techniques beyond the scope of most classrooms.
In order to participate in the BioConnection Program, teachers must attend a one-day training workshop for which they are eligible to receive Continuing Education Units (CEUs). Over a period of approximately two weeks, teachers are able to use the BioConnection module to teach the prepared lessons. Once completed, the BioConnection module is replenished and loaned to another school.
The BioConnection Program is designed for students in 4th through 12th grade. Please visit the Curriculum section for descriptions of the experiment lessons and the grade levels for which each is appropriate.
