After Requesting a BioBus/BioConnection Visit
After requesting a BioBus or BioConnection visit, you will be added to our database. When your school comes up for a visit, you will receive a packet confirming your BioBus or BioConnection visit for the school year. (Exact visit dates may be determined later.) Upon receiving this packet, please do the following:
- Designate a visit contact person to coordinate all communications between the BioBus staff and your school (usually this is the teacher participating in the Program).
- Complete all forms in the packet (including Visit Contact Person form and Session Request form).
- Include directions to your school for both the BioBus drivers (beginning at 647 Cromwell Ave., Rocky Hill, CT 06067) and the BioBus staff (beginning at 300 George St., New Haven, CT 06511). Please take into account that the BioBus is not allowed to travel on the Wilbur Cross/Merritt Parkway (Rt 15) and is approximately 12'6" in height. (BioConnection teachers need only send directions for staff).
- Register for a training workshop. Each teacher who plans to take their class on-board the BioBus, or plans to use the BioConnection equipment in their classroom must attend the appropriate one-day training workshop prior to their visit. Returning teachers, please note that your training expires after 2 years. Visit our “Educator Workshops” section to sign up for the next available workshop.
- BioBus Only: Fill out the Site Map Form detailing exactly where the BioBus is to be parked at your school. The more detail provided the better.
- BioConnection Only: Return the principal letter on school stationery, signed and dated by your residing principal.
Prior to Your BioBus/BioConnection Visit
Prior to your BioBus/BioConnection visit, the visit contact person should:
- Confirm your visit schedule and experiment choice(s) with BioBus staff at least 4 weeks prior to visit.
- Make sure that all forms (site map, class lists etc.) have been sent in.
- Complete the pre-lab activities with students.
- Have students and/or their parents complete Photograph Consent forms if necessary. (The BioBus staff does not need these forms; however, be aware that the press will be notified and sometimes come on-board the BioBus).
- BioBus Only: Fill out class list forms for every session on-board the BioBus (if these lists change prior to your BioBus visit, bring updated class lists with you to the BioBus prior to your first session on-board).
- BioBus Only: The day before your visit, please mark the spot where the BioBus is to be parked with road cones, tape, and/or signs.
After Your BioBus/BioConnection Visit
After your BioBus/BioConnection visit, the visit contact person should:
- Complete the post-lab activities with students.
- Fill out the online evaluation of the BioBus/BioConnection visit. (The link will be sent to you via email following your visit.)
- Have the teachers and students write thank you notes addressed to “BioBus Educational Programs Sponsor” and send them to the CURE office at 300 George Street Suite 561, New Haven, CT 06511 (optional).
